Youth Ministry – Church Fundraisers
So the youth ministry is planning to go to an incredible church camp that is supposed to be out of this world. The only problem is that the parents, teens and youth ministry budget do not have the funds to go. What do you do? Naturally, you begin looking for ideas to raise money through church fundraisers, youth car washes and other avenues of bringing in funds. There are a few secrets to having a successful church fundraiser.
There are two types of church fundraisers. The first type is marketed in-house and can be quite lucrative. These types of fundraisers usually include church suppers where the youth work on food preparation and/or waiting tables. Kids work either by way of tips or by charging a ticket price to get into the dinner. If you decide to go this route, consider getting the food donated by either a member of the church or by a local business. Restaurants love to do things like that because they get to use their costs as a write off on their taxes.
The other type of youth ministry fundraiser is conducted by marketing to everyone in the local community. These are often preferred by the eldership and senior pastor, because it doesn’t drain the funds of church members who already provide a tithe and offering (the funding which supplies the youth group with its budget).
This type of fundraising is best done by selling a product such as cookie dough, wrapping paper or candy. Carwashes are also excellent sources of youth ministry income, and local raffles are another option.
Whichever type of ministry fundraiser you decide to use, make sure that you keep it simple and keep your costs low. A high shipping fee can completely offset your group’s earnings. In order to have the most lucrative earnings, it is recommended that you use both and in-house fundraiser and a community fundraiser. The combination of the two can generate a positive response.
